HBO, a leading movie streaming service, has revealed the alleged identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the founder of Bitcoin and the earliest pioneer of the cryptocurrency concept.
HBO made this revelation through a highly anticipated documentary titled “ Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery sparking raging speculations in the global crypto space on the real identity of Satoshi Nakamoto.
The identity of Satoshi has remained the industry’s biggest mystery as the Pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto has remained completely anonymous since the launch of Bitcoin back in 2009.
The HBO documentary on this mystery was highly anticipated as some analysts claimed the revelations could change the crypto industry as we know it.
However, after the HBO documentary aired yesterday, its revelation did very little to quench the curiosity of the crypto community around the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto.
Many members of the global community believed the evidence used by HBO on who they think Satoshi is was not strong enough and even circumstantial.
Who is Peter Todd?
The HBO documentary which premiered yesterday claimed that a certain Peter Todd was the mystery man behind the Satoshi Nakamoto Pseudonym and the founder of Bitcoin.
Peter Todd was born and raised in Canada and is already a familiar face in the crypto industry. Peter is a known Bitcoin core developer and cryptographer who shot into the limelight for his contributions to the Bitcoin ecosystem.
Peter was among the inner circle of Satoshi and was among the earliest developers to work on the Bitcoin project.
He was among the first developers to contribute to Bitcoin Codebase and had and early relationship with Hal Finney and Adam Back, two prominent Bitcoin pioneers.
Peter Todd however has come out to deny that he is Satoshi Nakamoto giving more credence to the critics of the HBO Documentary and leaving the mystery still wide open.
Why did HBO claim Peter Todd is Satoshi?
HBO’s claim on Peter Todd being Satoshi comes from their independent research. They claimed a mistaken reply in 2010 when Todd accidentally responded to a post that Satoshi Nakamoto had started on the Bitcoin Talk forum using his account.
They also claimed that Peter Todd went on to implement the particular feature he was discussing with Satoshi on the group chat and both characters were using British Canadian spellings.
The global crypto community has dismissed these claims as too flimsy and not solid enough to convince anyone that Peter Todd is Satoshi Nakamoto.
Satoshi Nakamoto was the founder of cryptocurrency and kicked off the movement when he launched the Bitcoin whitepaper in 2009. He has remained anonymous ever since and remains the largest holder of the asset.
