Hamster Kombat, the largest crypto airdrop campaign in crypto history, finally launched on Thursday 26 September after months of active participation by over 300 million global players.
The crypto project which has been the talk of the town due to its enormous community ended disappointing huge portions of its community by delivering very little rewards.
The Hamster Kombat airdrop was heavily criticized for delivering “dust” a term used in crypto to describe trivial amounts of crypto that are typically left over from a transaction or trade.
The frustration of the community stems from the fact that they spent several months mining the token consistently and received a reward that was nowhere close to the effort they put into the project.
A vast majority of Nigerians who mined the project got less than 10$ for their efforts which is roughly N16,000 in the country’s local currency. This is a far cry from rewards received by Nigerians from the Notcoin Airdrop project which saw some Nigerians earning as high as $500.
Nigeria’s Web3 community on X was awash with complaints on the issue with various individuals questioning the viability of tap to earn projects going forward.
Hamster Kombat Airdrop Launch Details
Out of the 300 million global Hamster Kombat players who engaged in the project since late March only 131 million qualified for the distribution.
2.3 million users were disqualified for cheating in the mining process.
Overall, 60 billion HMSTR was earmarked for Hamster Kombat CEOs who managed their crypto exchanges in-game over 7 months gathering tokens and waiting for the airdrop launch event which finally happened yesterday.
Hamster Kombat is listed at a price range of $0.012 to $0.09 according to various exchanges. Coingecko reported that the HMSTR token has dropped by 41% from an initial price of $0.012 while Coinmarket Cap reported a 25% drop from an initial price of $0.009.
Hamster Kombat in an announcement on X revealed that over 30 million users were already trading Hamster following the airdrop and users could experience challenges due to the high demand.
“Dear CEOs,
Hamster family is truly an unstoppable force!
Over two-thirds of the airdrop have already been distributed between our players.
30+ million users have already started trading $HMSTR, with more joining every second.
Due to overwhelming demand, you might be experiencing difficulties with accessing and sending your tokens.
We’re fully aware of the issue and are closely working with the TON team clock to ensure the process continues smoothly!” The Hamster team stated.
Despite Hamster Kombat’s global userbase, Google search volume for Hamster Kombat revealed a concentration of the project in Africa over the past day, with countries like Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Somalia being hot zones. The United States ranked last on the list of interest in the project.
Reactions
The X platform was filled with angry reactions from Nigerians and global users as well over the paltry amounts earned by miners after several months of putting in effort.
Most users expressed their disappointment while others called for a boycott of the project entirely.
A Nigerian user, Faares, with over 130,000 followers expressed his disappointment in the project stating that it wasn’t a good investment for airdrop miners.
“People wasted many days and hours playing this thing only for y’all to be rewarding them with some chicken change? Y’all disappointed them and they ain’t trusting you no more.” — Faares stated
Others called for a total Boycott of the project with its planned second session following the exploitation of the community in the first.
Mustaq Ahmad, another Nigerian user, mirrored this statement calling for a total boycott of the project.
“Attention Community! It’s Time to Act!
